SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Paragon BioTeck, Inc., a privately-held pharmaceutical and medical device company, announced today that Captain Ed Woodward, former standout Air Force pilot and Tillman Military Scholar will be inducted as an honorary member of the company’s Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) at ASCRS. Woodward currently attends University of South Florida’s (USF) Morsani School of Medicine; he was medically retired from the Air Force after sustaining a traumatic brain injury (TBI) during inflight training.
“We are honored to have Captain Woodward participating in our onsite activities at ASCRS,” said Paragon BioTeck CEO, Patrick Witham. “He is a testament to perseverance, unwavering commitment and true heroism. We are extremely fortunate that a person of his caliber and character will be joining the field of medicine.”
Capt Woodward is pursuing his Doctor of Medicine to honor his identical twin brother Gene’s memory, who was tragically killed by a drunk driver during final exams in his first year of medical school. Gene also attended the Morsani School of Medicine.
Just five flights short of graduating, Capt Woodward developed a TBI during a high “G” environment night flight that ended his military and flying career. Captain Woodward holds numerous accolades including graduating from Joint Specialized Undergraduate Navigator Training and earning his aeronautical rating and navigator wings. He graduated in the top 10% of his class and was distinguished as the number one Air Force Navigator Graduate.
Capt Woodward was selected to the 2012 class of Tillman Military Scholars and completed his Master’s Degree in Medical Science at USF in May 2013.
